Fort Ward and South Beach are at the southernmost end of Bainbridge Island.

Fort Ward was the site of a small but famous Navy base, decommissioned in 1958. Part of it was purchased by the Bainbridge Island Parks and Recreations Department to create Fort Ward Park, 120 acres of shoreline, camp sites, and a public boat ramp.  The community of Fort Ward was built around carefully preserved landmarks of the base. The old parade ground is now a city park and some original brick buildings (the commander’s home and the old admin building) are now perfectly restored private residences. The old armory will soon be a community center. Fort Ward offers homes of all sizes and price ranges.

South Beach is best known for large, spectacular homes with equally spectacular views. Many homes have breathtaking views of Mt. Rainier, the Sound, Seattle, or the Cascade Mountains… and sometimes all of them!
